Company intelligence / Profile preview
MOVA Pharmaceuticals was a leading contract manufacturing organization (CMO) based in Puerto Rico, specializing in the production of solid, semi-solid, and liquid dosage forms for the global pharmaceutical industry. Founded in 1986 by Joaquín Viso, the company established a strong reputation for high-quality manufacturing and technical services, serving many of the world's largest pharmaceutical companies. MOVA operated multiple FDA-approved facilities and was recognized for its expertise in complex formulations and technology transfers, including specialized capabilities for cephalosporins. In 2004, the company was acquired by Patheon for approximately $350 million, which significantly expanded Patheon's manufacturing footprint in the Caribbean. The legacy MOVA operations are now part of Thermo Fisher Scientific following its subsequent acquisition of Patheon.
