MPPGO

The Medicines Patent Pool (MPP) is a United Nations-backed public health organization based in Geneva, Switzerland, dedicated to increasing access to and facilitating the development of life-saving medicines for low- and middle-income countries. Through its innovative business model, MPP partners with civil society, governments, international organizations, industry, and patient groups to prioritize, forecast, and license needed medicines and pool intellectual property. The organization primarily focuses on HIV, hepatitis C, and tuberculosis treatments, but has recently expanded into COVID-19 therapeutics and other essential medicines. By negotiating with patent holders to license their technology to generic manufacturers, MPP helps lower drug prices and encourages the development of new formulations such as fixed-dose combinations and pediatric versions.
