Murdoch Westscheme

The Murdoch Westscheme Enterprise Partnership (MWEP) was a specialized venture capital fund and joint venture established in 2004 between Murdoch University and Westscheme, then Western Australia's largest private superannuation fund. With an initial commitment of approximately AUD $12.5 million, the partnership focused on commercializing early-stage biotechnology and life science research originating from Murdoch University and other Western Australian institutions. MWEP played a pivotal role in the regional biotech sector by providing seed capital and commercialization expertise to university spin-off companies. Notable investments included Dimerix Bioscience, which focuses on G-protein coupled receptor (GPCR) therapies, and Orthocell, a regenerative medicine company specializing in tendon and soft tissue repair. The partnership's active investment phase concluded following the merger of Westscheme into AustralianSuper in 2011.
