MUSC Foundation for Research and Development

The MUSC Foundation for Research and Development (MFRD) is the technology transfer and commercialization office for the Medical University of South Carolina. It is responsible for identifying, protecting, and licensing intellectual property developed by MUSC researchers to industry partners. MFRD facilitates the translation of academic discoveries into clinical applications, covering a broad spectrum of healthcare sectors including therapeutics, diagnostics, and medical devices. The foundation also plays a critical role in economic development by supporting the launch of startup companies and fostering collaborations between academia and the private sector. Its portfolio includes hundreds of patents and numerous active licenses across therapeutic areas such as oncology, cardiology, and neuroscience.
