Mutala Trust

Mutala Trust is a prominent African-led non-profit clinical research organization headquartered in Harare, Zimbabwe. Established in 2021 by physician-scientist Dr. Tariro Makadzange, the organization focuses on conducting high-quality clinical trials and implementation science research to address major health challenges in Africa, including HIV/AIDS, tuberculosis, malaria, and maternal health. Mutala Trust serves as a pivotal clinical site for global health initiatives, notably leading the first-in-human Phase 1 trial for the GRAdHIVNE1 HIV vaccine candidate in collaboration with IAVI and the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation. Through its Africa Clinical Research Network (ACRN), the trust works to strengthen local scientific infrastructure and ensure that medical research is ethically conducted and directly benefits African populations.
