Overview
Myogen was a biopharmaceutical company focused on the discovery and development of small molecule drugs for cardiovascular and inflammatory diseases. The company's primary focus was on endothelin receptor antagonists, leading to the development of ambrisentan for pulmonary arterial hypertension. Following successful clinical trials, ambrisentan was eventually approved and marketed as Letairis. Myogen also developed darusentan for resistant hypertension and enoximone for chronic heart failure. In 2006, Gilead Sciences acquired Myogen for $2.5 billion to establish a presence in the cardiovascular market.
