Company intelligence / Profile preview
Myr Pharma (Myr GmbH) is a German biotechnology company that was acquired by Gilead Sciences in 2021 for approximately €1.15 billion. The company is best known for developing Hepcludex (bulevirtide), a first-in-class entry inhibitor and the first therapy conditionally approved by the EMA for the treatment of chronic hepatitis delta virus (HDV) infection. Hepcludex works by binding to the NTCP receptor on liver cells, effectively blocking the entry of both HBV and HDV. Following the acquisition, the core leadership team established Myrpharm Advisors to provide strategic consultancy within the life sciences sector, leveraging their expertise in orphan drug development and regulatory navigation. The acquisition significantly strengthened Gilead's position in the liver disease market by adding a critical treatment for one of the most severe forms of viral hepatitis.
