Nanomimetics

Nanomimetics was a biotechnology company focused on the development of synthetic high-density lipoprotein (sHDL) nanoparticles for the treatment of cardiovascular diseases and cancer. Spun out of Northwestern University, the company utilized a proprietary nanotechnology platform to create biomimetic structures that mimic the natural function of 'good cholesterol' to remove excess lipids from the vasculature. Beyond cardiovascular applications, the company explored the use of sHDL as a targeted delivery vehicle for therapeutic agents and as a scavenger for cholesterol-dependent cancer cells. Nanomimetics was eventually integrated into the broader operations of AuraSense, which later evolved into Exicure.
