Company intelligence / Profile preview
NanoSystems was a pioneering drug delivery company best known for its proprietary NanoCrystal technology platform. The technology addresses the challenge of poor water solubility in drug candidates by reducing drug particles to nanometer sizes, thereby increasing surface area and dissolution rates. Founded in 1991 as a spin-off from Sterling Winthrop, the company passed through the ownership of Eastman Kodak before being acquired by Elan Corporation in 1998. In 2011, Elan's drug delivery unit, including the NanoSystems business, merged with Alkermes to form a leading global biopharmaceutical company. The NanoCrystal platform has been successfully integrated into numerous blockbuster commercial products, such as Rapamune, Emend, and Tricor. The company's innovations significantly impacted the formulation science field, enabling the commercialization of drugs that were previously difficult to deliver effectively.
