National Alliance for Health Information Technology

The National Alliance for Health Information Technology (NAHIT) was a prominent non-profit organization dedicated to advancing the adoption of health information technology in the United States. Founded in 2002, the Alliance played a pivotal role in standardizing healthcare terminology, notably providing the consensus definitions for Electronic Health Records (EHR) and Electronic Medical Records (EMR) used by the Department of Health and Human Services. The organization served as a collaborative forum for leaders across the healthcare spectrum, including providers, payers, and technology vendors. NAHIT ceased operations in 2009, citing that its primary mission of bringing HIT to the forefront of the national agenda had been achieved following the passage of the HITECH Act.
