National Center for the Production of Laboratory Animals

CENPALAB (Centro Nacional para la Producción de Animales de Laboratorio) is a prominent Cuban scientific-productive complex and a key subsidiary of the BioCubaFarma group. Established in 1982, the center specializes in the breeding and supply of high-quality laboratory animals, including SPF (Specific Pathogen Free) and gnotobiotic models, which are essential for preclinical biomedical research. Beyond animal production, CENPALAB operates as a contract research organization (CRO) providing toxicology, pharmacology, and safety testing services. The center also manufactures biological products such as veterinary vaccines and diagnostic reagents under strict Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP). It serves as a critical infrastructure pillar for the Cuban biotechnology industry, supporting the development of both human and animal health products.
