Overview
The National Retina Institute (NRI) was a prominent clinical and research center specializing in vitreoretinal diseases, founded in 1989 by Dr. Bert M. Glaser. Based in the Baltimore, Maryland area, the institute provided advanced diagnostic and surgical treatments for conditions such as macular degeneration, diabetic retinopathy, and retinal detachment. NRI was also a significant clinical research site, participating in numerous multicenter trials for breakthrough ophthalmic therapies, including anti-VEGF agents. In recent years, it operated as part of the Eyecare Services Partners (ESP) network through the Katzen Eye Group. The institute officially ceased patient operations on January 1, 2025, with care transitioning to affiliated practices.
