National Spinal Cord Injury Association

The National Spinal Cord Injury Association (NSCIA) was a prominent non-profit organization dedicated to improving the quality of life for individuals living with spinal cord injuries and disorders. Founded in 1948 by paralyzed veterans, the association provided a wide range of services including peer support, advocacy, and educational resources. It operated through a network of local chapters across the United States to offer community-based assistance. In 2011, the NSCIA merged with the United Spinal Association to consolidate resources and expand their impact on the SCI community. The organization played a critical role in the passage of the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA). While not a drug developer, the NSCIA served as a vital link between patients and the medical research community.
