Negocios Asociados Mayoristas S.A., operating under the trade name Negasmart, is an Ecuadorian third-party distribution company based in Quito that specializes in the wholesale of confectionery and food ingredients. The company gained international notoriety in late 2023 when it was identified by the U.S. FDA and Ecuadorian health authorities as the supplier of lead-contaminated cinnamon used in several brands of applesauce pouches. This contamination led to a massive recall and hundreds of cases of lead poisoning in children across the United States. Negasmart has since been subject to administrative sanctions and ongoing investigations regarding its supply chain and quality control protocols. The company maintains that it purchased the contaminated cinnamon from other local suppliers and did not process it directly.
