Neothermia

Neothermia Corporation was a medical device company specializing in minimally invasive systems for the diagnosis and treatment of breast cancer. Founded in 1998, the company developed the en-bloc Breast Biopsy System, which utilized radiofrequency energy to excise intact tissue samples for histopathological analysis. This technology was designed to provide a more accurate alternative to traditional core needle biopsies by capturing a complete, volumetric sample of suspicious tissue, thereby reducing the need for follow-up surgical biopsies. In 2005, the company rebranded as Intact Medical Corporation and renamed its flagship product the Intact Breast Lesion Excision System. The company was acquired by Medtronic in 2017, which integrated the technology into its oncology and surgical device portfolio.
