Neurochlore

Neurochlore is a French biotechnology company dedicated to the development of innovative treatments for neurodevelopmental disorders, with a primary focus on Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD). The company was founded in 2011 by Professor Yehezkel Ben-Ari, based on his pioneering research into the role of chloride homeostasis in the developing brain. Its lead product candidate was a pediatric liquid formulation of bumetanide, a selective NKCC1 chloride importer antagonist designed to reduce intracellular chloride levels in neurons. In 2017, Neurochlore entered into a major licensing agreement with Servier to develop and commercialize bumetanide in Europe and other territories. However, in 2021, the company announced that its two pivotal Phase 3 clinical trials, Bum-1 and Bum-2, failed to demonstrate superiority over placebo in children and adolescents with autism. Consequently, the development program was halted, and the company ceased its primary R&D operations.
