NeuroMed Technologies

NeuroMed Technologies (later renamed NeuroMed Pharmaceuticals) was a Canadian biopharmaceutical company focused on the discovery and development of small molecule ion channel blockers for the treatment of pain and other neurological disorders. Founded in 1998 as a spin-off from the University of British Columbia, the company specialized in targeting N-type and T-type calcium channels using a proprietary drug discovery platform. Its lead clinical candidate, NMED-160 (later Z160), was an oral N-type calcium channel blocker developed for chronic and neuropathic pain. The company also successfully developed Exalgo (hydromorphone HCl extended-release), which was later acquired and marketed by Mallinckrodt. In 2009, NeuroMed merged with CombinatoRx to form Zalicus, which continued the development of its ion channel pipeline.
