NeuronIcon

NeuronIcon was a Danish biotechnology company founded in 2004 as a spin-out from Aarhus University. The company specialized in developing novel therapeutic approaches for acute brain damage and neurodegenerative disorders, with a primary focus on the role of the protein sortilin in nerve cell death. Its research demonstrated that sortilin acts as a key receptor in pathways leading to neuronal loss following stroke, spinal cord injury, and in diseases such as Alzheimer's and Parkinson's. In July 2009, NeuronIcon was acquired by the pharmaceutical company Lundbeck to integrate its innovative sortilin-based receptor technology into Lundbeck's neurology pipeline. Following the acquisition, the company's discoveries continued to be developed within Lundbeck's research and development framework.
