Neuroptix

Neuroptix was a medical technology company focused on the early detection of Alzheimer's disease through non-invasive eye scans. The company developed the SAPPHIRE system, which utilized laser-based technology to detect amyloid-beta protein aggregates in the lens of the eye, acting as a surrogate for brain pathology. This approach aimed to provide a point-of-care diagnostic tool that was significantly less invasive and expensive than traditional PET scans or lumbar punctures. Although the company reached Phase 2 clinical trials and demonstrated the ability to distinguish Alzheimer's patients from healthy controls, it eventually ceased operations and is no longer active. Neuroptix was backed by prominent venture capital firms and collaborated with leading academic institutions in the field of neurology.
