Neurovir

NeuroVir was a biotechnology company specializing in the development of oncolytic herpes simplex virus (HSV) therapies for the treatment of cancer. The company's technology platform utilized genetically modified viruses designed to selectively replicate within and destroy tumor cells while sparing normal tissue. Its lead program, G207, entered clinical trials for highly malignant brain tumors, representing a significant milestone in gene therapy and virotherapy. NeuroVir was acquired by the German biopharmaceutical company MediGene in 2001 to expand its oncology portfolio. The company's foundational research originated from Massachusetts General Hospital and Harvard Medical School. The acquisition allowed for the further clinical development of HSV-based candidates in various solid tumor indications.
