New England Healthcare Exchange Network

New England Healthcare Exchange Network is a nonprofit healthcare data exchange organization and service platform focused on administrative and clinical interoperability for payers, providers, and hospitals across New England. Originally established as a standalone nonprofit and now operated as part of the Massachusetts Health Data Consortium, NEHEN provides secure X12 EDI transaction services for claims, eligibility, remittance, referrals, and related workflows. The organization is expanding its offering with FHIR-based services to support electronic prior authorization, quality data exchange, and broader real-time interoperability. Rather than developing therapeutics, NEHEN functions as healthcare infrastructure that helps reduce administrative burden, improve compliance, and streamline information exchange across the regional healthcare ecosystem.
