Newport Pharmaceuticals International was a pharmaceutical company primarily recognized for the development and global commercialization of inosine pranobex, marketed under the brand name Isoprinosine. The company focused on immunomodulatory therapies designed to enhance the body's natural immune response against viral infections, including herpes simplex, HPV, and the rare brain disorder subacute sclerosing panencephalitis (SSPE). While the original U.S. parent company faced financial restructuring in the late 20th century, its Irish subsidiary, Newport Pharmaceuticals Ltd., continued to manage the product's international presence. In 2015, the Irish entity and its product rights were acquired by the Swiss pharmaceutical group Ewopharma. Today, Isoprinosine remains a widely used antiviral and immunomodulator in numerous markets across Europe and Asia.
