Nikken Chemicals was a prominent Japanese pharmaceutical company headquartered in Tokyo, primarily focused on the development and marketing of ethical drugs. The company maintained a specialized portfolio in metabolic disorders, cardiovascular health, and gastrointestinal treatments, with its most notable product being Kinedak (epalrestat) for the treatment of diabetic neuropathy. In 2005, Nikken Chemicals became a wholly-owned subsidiary of Mitsubishi Pharma Corporation through a strategic acquisition intended to consolidate Mitsubishi's domestic market share. Following the 2007 merger of Mitsubishi Pharma and Tanabe Seiyaku, Nikken's operations and product lines were fully integrated into the newly formed Mitsubishi Tanabe Pharma.
