Nium is a biotechnology spin-off from the Luxembourg Centre for Systems Biomedicine (LCSB) at the University of Luxembourg. Founded in 2019, the company develops scalable gut-on-a-chip technology, specifically its patented 'microGUT' and 'iMAT' platforms, to simulate the human gastrointestinal tract and study the complex interactions between food, ingredients, drugs, and the gut microbiome. By combining advanced microfluidics, automation, and bioinformatics, Nium provides testing services and data generation for food, clinical nutrition, and pharmaceutical companies. The company's long-term vision is to build the data infrastructure required for predictive microbiome AI, enabling more accurate and human-relevant discovery across nutrition, therapeutics, and health applications.
