Shanghai No. 3 Pharmaceutical Factory was a foundational state-owned pharmaceutical enterprise in China, established in 1950 and based in Shanghai. The company is historically significant for being the first in China to successfully mass-produce penicillin, significantly advancing the country's healthcare capabilities during the mid-20th century. Throughout its history, it specialized in the research, development, and large-scale manufacturing of antibiotics, including streptomycin and various cephalosporins. Following the restructuring of the Chinese pharmaceutical industry, the factory was integrated into Shanghai Pharmaceuticals Holding (SPH). It now operates as part of SPH's core manufacturing infrastructure, maintaining a focus on high-quality anti-infective medications and active pharmaceutical ingredients.
