Company intelligence / Profile preview
Noblegen was a Canadian industrial biotechnology company that developed nutritional and functional ingredients from the single-celled microorganism Euglena gracilis. The company focused on producing proteins, oils, carbohydrates, and food systems for plant-based and sustainable consumer products using a proprietary fermentation-based platform. Founded in 2013 in Peterborough, Ontario, Noblegen raised venture financing and built food-grade biomanufacturing capabilities before being acquired by Solar Biotech in July 2023. Following the acquisition, Noblegen began operating as Solar Biotech Canada, serving as Solar Biotech’s Canadian biomanufacturing and R&D hub. The business was oriented toward sustainable ingredients and synbio-enabled manufacturing rather than human therapeutics.
