Nopco Chemical Company

Nopco Chemical Company, originally founded as the National Oil Products Company in 1907, was a prominent American specialty chemical manufacturer with significant contributions to the life sciences and nutrition sectors. The company is historically notable for its pioneering work in the production of Vitamin D concentrates used for fortifying milk and animal feed, as well as its development of various pharmaceutical intermediates. Beyond nutrition, Nopco produced a wide array of industrial chemicals, including emulsifiers, defoamers, and processing aids for the textile and paper industries. After decades of independent operation, the company was acquired by Diamond Shamrock in 1967, and its business units eventually became part of Henkel and later BASF.
