Nor-Am Company

Nor-Am Chemical Company was a prominent life sciences organization specializing in the development and commercialization of agricultural chemicals, including herbicides, insecticides, and fungicides. Originally established as a joint venture between the German pharmaceutical giant Schering AG and the American company Morton Norwich Products, it became a key player in the North American crop protection market. The company was headquartered in Wilmington, Delaware, and operated significant manufacturing facilities in Arkansas and Michigan. Nor-Am is best known for its portfolio of sugar beet herbicides, such as Betamix and Betanex, which were industry standards for decades. In 1994, the company was merged with the agrochemical interests of Hoechst AG to form AgrEvo, a move that consolidated Schering's agricultural business. Through subsequent industry mergers, Nor-Am's legacy and product lines were eventually integrated into Bayer CropScience.
