North American Scientific

North American Scientific was a medical technology company that developed and manufactured innovative products for the treatment of cancer, primarily focusing on brachytherapy. The company's core business involved the production of radioactive seeds, such as Prospera (iodine-125) and SurTRAK (palladium-103), used in the treatment of prostate cancer. Additionally, the company developed the ClearPath system, a multi-lumen breast brachytherapy device designed to provide more precise radiation delivery. Through its subsidiary, Theseus Imaging Corporation, the company also advanced a pipeline of radiopharmaceuticals, most notably Apomate, an imaging agent for detecting apoptosis in cardiovascular and oncological conditions. Despite its established product lines, North American Scientific faced significant financial challenges and filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy in 2009. Its assets were subsequently acquired by Best Medical International, which integrated the technologies into its own radiation therapy portfolio.
