North Philadelphia Health System (NPHS) was a non-profit healthcare organization based in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, that primarily served low-income and underserved populations. The system operated two main facilities: St. Joseph's Hospital and the Girard Medical Center, providing a range of services including acute care, behavioral health, and substance abuse treatment. Facing severe financial difficulties and a heavy reliance on Medicaid funding, NPHS filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy in 2016, leading to the closure of St. Joseph's Hospital. The organization eventually ceased operations as a unified health system, with its remaining behavioral health services at Girard Medical Center transitioning to new management and oversight.
