Northern California Institute of Research

The Northern California Institute for Research and Education (NCIRE), also known as The Veterans Health Research Institute, is a leading non-profit research organization dedicated to advancing the health of military veterans. Based in San Francisco and closely affiliated with the San Francisco VA Health Care System and the University of California, San Francisco (UCSF), NCIRE is the largest of the VA-affiliated research corporations in the United States. The institute manages a vast portfolio of research programs, including basic laboratory science, clinical trials, and health services research. Its primary therapeutic focuses include brain health—specifically PTSD, traumatic brain injury, and Alzheimer's disease—as well as heart disease, cancer, and kidney disease.
