Northstar Neuroscience

Northstar Neuroscience was a Seattle-based medical device company developing the proprietary Renova™ Cortical Stimulation System to deliver targeted electrical stimulation to the cerebral cortex. Its lead indication was upper limb motor recovery after stroke, with additional exploratory programs in post-stroke aphasia and treatment-resistant depression. The pivotal EVEREST trial for stroke did not meet its primary endpoint, leading to a decline in stock price and eventual closure of the company. The technology showed encouraging safety data but failed to achieve sufficient efficacy for regulatory approval prior to shutdown.
