Company intelligence / Profile preview
Norwood EyeCare was an ophthalmic medical device company and a subsidiary of the Australian firm Norwood Abbey Limited. The company specialized in refractive surgery technology, specifically the Epi-LASIK procedure, which allows for laser vision correction without cutting the corneal stroma. Its flagship product, the Centurion SES Epikeratome (later the Norwood EyeCare Epikeratome), was acquired from CIBA Vision in 2004 and received FDA 510(k) clearance. Despite initial global expansion and partnerships with distributors like Bausch & Lomb, the company struggled with market penetration against competing technologies. In 2011, its parent company transitioned into the energy sector, effectively ending Norwood EyeCare's operations in the medical device industry.
