Norwood Immunology

Norwood Immunology was an Australian biotechnology company dedicated to immune system rejuvenation through the regeneration of the thymus gland. Established as a spin-out from Norwood Abbey in 2003, the company utilized technology developed at Monash University centered on Gonadotropin-Releasing Hormone (GnRH) analogues. These analogues, such as Lupron, were designed to reverse thymic atrophy and stimulate the production of new, naive T cells, offering potential therapeutic benefits for patients with cancer, HIV/AIDS, and those undergoing bone marrow transplants. Despite reaching Phase 2 clinical trials and acquiring the vaccine platform company Virosome Biologicals, Norwood Immunology faced significant financial challenges. In 2009, it sold its virosome assets to Mymetics Corporation, and the company subsequently became inactive as its parent entity shifted focus to the energy sector.
