NovaMin Technology is a medical technology company that developed a proprietary bioactive glass used primarily in oral healthcare. The company's core technology, a calcium sodium phosphosilicate compound, was originally designed for bone regeneration but was successfully repurposed to treat dentin hypersensitivity. When exposed to saliva, NovaMin releases calcium and phosphate ions that form a protective hydroxyapatite-like layer over exposed dentin tubules. This mechanism provides rapid and long-lasting relief from tooth sensitivity. In 2010, the company was acquired by GSK for approximately $135 million. Today, NovaMin is a key active ingredient in the Sensodyne Repair & Protect toothpaste line and other professional dental products.
