Company intelligence / Profile preview
NovaSoma was a Cambridge-based biotechnology company focused on the discovery and development of novel therapeutics for obesity and metabolic diseases. Founded in 2000 by Dr. Jeffrey Friedman, the discoverer of the hormone leptin, the company aimed to translate genetic and biological insights into the regulation of body weight into therapeutic candidates. NovaSoma's research centered on identifying small molecule modulators of the leptin pathway and other key regulators of energy homeostasis. In February 2002, NovaSoma merged with Infinity Pharmaceuticals to combine its biological expertise with Infinity's chemical genomics and drug discovery technologies. Following the merger, the combined entity operated under the Infinity Pharmaceuticals name, with NovaSoma's leadership playing a central role in the new organization.
