Company intelligence / Profile preview
Novopharm Biotech Inc. was a Canadian biopharmaceutical company specializing in the discovery and development of targeted protein therapeutics (TPTs) for the treatment of cancer. Originally established as a subsidiary of the generic drug manufacturer Novopharm Limited, the company became an independent public entity in 1995 and was later renamed Viventia Biotech following the acquisition of its parent by Teva Pharmaceuticals. Novopharm Biotech's core technology involved engineering immunotoxins that linked tumor-specific antibody fragments to potent protein toxins, designed to selectively destroy cancer cells while sparing healthy tissue. Its lead product candidates, Vicinium and Proxinium, were advanced into clinical trials for high-grade bladder cancer and late-stage head and neck cancer, respectively. The company operated a GMP-certified manufacturing facility in Winnipeg, Manitoba, supporting its internal pipeline and research efforts.
