Neuraltus Pharmaceuticals was a privately held biopharmaceutical company focused on developing innovative therapeutics for neurodegenerative diseases. The company's lead candidate, NP001, was a high-purity formulation of sodium chlorite designed to regulate neuroinflammation by shifting pro-inflammatory macrophages to a phagocytic, anti-inflammatory state. Despite promising early data, the company's Phase 2 confirmatory trial in Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis (ALS) failed to meet its primary endpoint in 2018, leading to a cessation of major operations.
