Nuclear Medicine Research Infrastructure

NuMeRI is a South African national research infrastructure dedicated to drug discovery, development, and clinical research using nuclear medicine imaging and therapy. It operates as a distributed network with its main hub at the Steve Biko Academic Hospital in Pretoria, providing advanced capabilities in radiopharmacy, preclinical imaging, and clinical trials. The facility focuses on high-burden diseases such as cancer, tuberculosis, and HIV, serving as a bridge between basic research and clinical application. As a flagship project of the South African Department of Science and Innovation, NuMeRI offers specialized services to both academic and industrial partners to advance precision medicine in the region.
