Company intelligence / Profile preview
Nycomed Amersham Imaging was a global leader in the field of diagnostic imaging and radiopharmaceuticals, formed by the 1997 merger of the Norwegian pharmaceutical company Nycomed and the British life sciences firm Amersham International. The company specialized in the development and production of contrast agents for X-ray, CT, MRI, and ultrasound, as well as sophisticated radiopharmaceuticals for nuclear medicine. Its flagship products, including Omnipaque, Visipaque, and Myoview, became gold standards in medical diagnostics for cardiology, neurology, and oncology. In 2001, the imaging business was integrated into the newly named Amersham Health. The entire Amersham group was subsequently acquired by General Electric in 2004 for approximately $9.5 billion, forming the basis of GE HealthCare's Pharmaceutical Diagnostics business.
