Obetrol Pharmaceuticals was a pharmaceutical manufacturer based in Valley Stream, New York, operating as a division of Rexar Pharmacal Corporation. The company is historically significant for developing and marketing Obetrol, a combination of four amphetamine salts originally indicated for the treatment of obesity. In 1994, Richwood Pharmaceutical Company acquired the rights to the Obetrol formulation and subsequently rebranded it as Adderall for the treatment of Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD). This transition marked a pivotal shift in the product's clinical application from weight management to neuropsychiatry. The legacy of Obetrol Pharmaceuticals' primary asset eventually became a cornerstone of Shire's neuroscience portfolio following its acquisition of Richwood.
