Oblate Optics is a photonics company specializing in the design and fabrication of AI-optimized meta-lenses, particularly its proprietary DeepFocus™ technology. Spun out of the University of Utah, the company develops ultra-thin, flat lenses that provide an extended depth of focus (EDOF), eliminating the need for bulky mechanical autofocus systems in laser and imaging applications. Its solutions address critical challenges in life sciences, medical device manufacturing, and industrial automation by enabling high-precision laser marking, cutting, and high-resolution 3D imaging. Oblate Optics recently commercialized its EDOF meta-lenses through a global partnership with Edmund Optics, making advanced meta-optics accessible for laboratory and industrial use.
