Oclassen Dermatologics

Oclassen Pharmaceuticals was a specialty pharmaceutical company dedicated to the development and commercialization of dermatological products. Based in San Rafael, California, the company focused on treatments for skin conditions including viral infections, fungal infections, and actinic keratosis. Its notable product portfolio included Condylox for genital warts and Exelderm for fungal infections. Oclassen was also known for its significant co-promotion agreement with Burroughs Wellcome for the antiviral Zovirax. The company was acquired by Watson Pharmaceuticals in 1997 for approximately $150 million to strengthen Watson's presence in the branded dermatology market. Following the acquisition, Oclassen's operations were integrated into Watson's specialty sales divisions.
