Company intelligence / Profile preview
OcuCell AG was a Swiss biotechnology company focused on developing regenerative cell therapies for ophthalmic diseases, specifically Age-related Macular Degeneration (AMD). The company's lead approach involved the transplantation of autologous iris pigment epithelial (IPE) cells to replace damaged retinal pigment epithelial (RPE) cells in the eye. OcuCell conducted clinical trials in collaboration with the University of Leipzig to evaluate the safety and efficacy of this surgical cell therapy. Despite pioneering early efforts in ocular regenerative medicine, the company faced financial challenges and entered liquidation in the mid-2000s.
