Company intelligence / Profile preview
Odwalla was an American food and beverage company that specialized in premium fruit juices, smoothies, and nutritional food bars. Founded in 1980 in Santa Cruz, California, the company became a pioneer in the natural health beverage market, known for its 'soil to soul' philosophy and unpasteurized products. Following a high-profile E. coli outbreak in 1996, the company transitioned to flash pasteurization to ensure product safety while maintaining nutritional integrity. Odwalla was acquired by The Coca-Cola Company in 2001 for approximately $181 million and operated as a subsidiary within the Minute Maid division. In July 2020, Coca-Cola announced the discontinuation of the Odwalla brand as part of a broader effort to streamline its product portfolio and focus on more scalable brands.
