Ohmeda

Ohmeda was a leading global healthcare company specializing in anesthesia and critical care products. Originally a division of the BOC Group, the company developed and manufactured a wide range of medical devices, including anesthesia delivery systems, ventilators, and patient monitors, as well as pharmaceutical products like inhaled anesthetics. In 1998, the company was split and sold; the medical device business was acquired by Instrumentarium (later GE Healthcare), while the pharmaceutical business was acquired by Baxter International. Ohmeda is credited with significant innovations in anesthesia safety and monitoring technology. Its legacy products, such as the Aestiva and Excel anesthesia machines, remained industry standards for decades. Today, the Ohmeda brand is primarily associated with the anesthesia systems now sold under the GE Healthcare portfolio.
