Company intelligence / Profile preview
Ohmx Corporation was a biotechnology company based in Evanston, Illinois, that developed a proprietary electronic protein detection (EPD) platform. The company's technology, spun out from Northwestern University, utilized electrochemical signals for the direct and sensitive measurement of proteins and small molecules without the need for complex optical systems. This platform was designed to provide the sensitivity of traditional immunoassays in a faster, simpler, and more cost-effective electronic format suitable for clinical diagnostics and point-of-care testing. Ohmx focused on developing assays for high-value biomarkers, including cardiac troponin and prostate-specific antigen (PSA). In May 2011, the company was acquired by Hologic for approximately $25 million to enhance Hologic's molecular diagnostic portfolio.
