Company intelligence / Profile preview
Olin Mathieson Chemical Corporation was a prominent American industrial conglomerate formed in 1954 by the merger of Olin Industries and Mathieson Chemical Corporation. The company played a major role in the healthcare sector through its ownership of E.R. Squibb & Sons, a leading pharmaceutical manufacturer acquired in 1952. Under Olin Mathieson's stewardship, Squibb expanded its portfolio in antibiotics, cardiovascular drugs, and diagnostic agents. In 1968, the company spun off its pharmaceutical division into an independent entity, Squibb Corporation, which later merged with Bristol-Myers to form Bristol Myers Squibb. Following the divestiture, the remaining industrial and chemical business was renamed Olin Corporation in 1969. Today, the Olin Mathieson name is primarily recognized for its historical contribution to the evolution of the modern pharmaceutical industry.
