Oncormed

Oncormed was a pioneering molecular diagnostics company focused on identifying genetic markers for cancer susceptibility and progression. The company gained prominence in the mid-1990s as the first commercial provider of BRCA1 genetic testing for hereditary breast and ovarian cancer. Beyond risk assessment, Oncormed developed assays to monitor therapeutic efficacy and detect minimal residual disease, positioning itself at the forefront of the personalized medicine movement. Following a high-profile patent dispute with Myriad Genetics, Oncormed sold its genetic testing business to Myriad in 1998. The remaining assets, including its extensive clinical databases and intellectual property, were subsequently acquired by Gene Logic later that year.
