One World

OneWorld Health, formally known as the Institute for OneWorld Health, was a pioneering non-profit pharmaceutical company dedicated to developing affordable medicines for neglected infectious diseases. Founded in 2000 by Dr. Victoria Hale, the organization operated as a social enterprise, identifying promising drug candidates abandoned by traditional pharma and advancing them through clinical development. Its most notable achievements include the regulatory approval of paromomycin for visceral leishmaniasis in India and the development of semi-synthetic artemisinin to stabilize the global supply of malaria treatments. By utilizing a network of public and private partnerships, OneWorld Health demonstrated that a non-profit model could successfully navigate the complex drug approval process to serve impoverished populations. In 2011, the company merged with PATH, where its mission continues as part of PATH's drug development program.
